Quote of the Week: Jim Rohn - Self-improvement

Jim Rohn - Motivation, success, discipline, the master of self improvement

We know what you might be thinking - Self-improvement books can have a bad reputation. There are certainly plenty of titles that put you off the genre entirely. The truth is we have all read such books that really felt more like the author was working hard to self-improve their bank balance, rather then genuinely help people.

But then there are those few authors and books that make a real and lasting impact on your thoughts, behaviours and life. For us, Jim Rohn is one of those authors.

Rohn has an accessible and straight-forward style that makes reading his books so enjoyable and easy. He doesn't shy away from being direct (like the quote we selected demonstrates) and his books are full of wisdom. So much so that we struggled picking one to headline this weeks post. So below are some of our other favourites:

“Motivation is what gets you started. Habit is what keeps you going.” ― Jim Rohn

“Learn how to be happy with what you have while you pursue all that you want.” ― Jim Rohn

“Miss a meal if you have to, but don't miss a book.” ― Jim Rohn

So in the spirit of not missing a good book, we have selected our favourite title from Jim Rohn along with two other books that talk to the power of habit and discipline.

1. 7 Strategies for Wealth & Happiness: Power Ideas from America's Foremost Business Philosopher

2. The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business

3. Discipline Equals Freedom: Field Manual

Below are links and descriptions from Amazon on the three books. We hope you enjoy them.

Happy reading!

While Jim has a number of different titles to chose from, this is our favourite.

Its a short read but full of insightful and inspiring ideas. Rohn uses the story of his own life to illustrate the power of these 7 critical ideas and how they can transform your circumstances. So while it was published over 20 years ago and can feel slightly dated in parts - the truth and wisdom it contains are as relevent as ever.

So whether you are at a particular low point in your life or riding high on recent success - we strongly recommend reading this.

In The Power of Habit, award-winning business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to the thrilling edge of scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. At its core, The Power of Habit contains an exhilarating argument: The key to exercising regularly, losing weight, being more productive, and achieving success is understanding how habits work. As Duhigg shows, by harnessing this new science, we can transform our businesses, our communities, and our lives.
